Ethiopian petrol prices are regulated and change periodically. As of 2025: petrol is roughly ETB 50–60 per litre (USD 0.85–1.00) and diesel ETB 45–55 per litre (USD 0.75–0.95).
Land Cruisers consume approximately 12–15 litres per 100 km on paved roads and 15–20 litres off-road. A 500 km highway journey in a Land Cruiser will cost roughly USD 50–75 in fuel.

On multi-day trips outside Addis Ababa it is standard practice for the client to cover the driver’s accommodation (USD 15–30/night) and meals (USD 10–20/day). Budget approximately USD 30–50 per day for driver living costs.
Tipping is customary but not compulsory. For a professional driver on a multi-day trip, USD 10–15 per day is fair and genuinely appreciated. On city day trips, USD 5–10 is appropriate. Tip directly in cash at the end of the trip.
