Getting around Bahir Dar with a driver.

Bahir Dar is the capital of the Amhara Region, on the southern shore of Lake Tana. The road from Addis Ababa runs north through Debre Markos and crosses the Blue Nile Gorge, where the road drops more than 1,000 metres into the canyon and climbs back out. Bahir Dar Airport (BJR) has flights from Addis Ababa of about an hour, so many clients fly in one direction and drive the other.

Once in Bahir Dar, most bookings cover the lake harbour for boats to the island monasteries, the Blue Nile Falls about 30 km away, programme visits in the surrounding region and the onward drive to Gondar, about 175 km north. Bahir Dar is also a common overnight stop on the northern historical circuit.
